Venceslao Giovanni Pio Moscia – a great philosopher and sculptor from Sardinia
1 min read
Venceslao was born in a small village in Sardinia. He was drawn to art from a very young age and began carving with his philosopher sculptor uncle. After moving to Milan, he met master Arnaldo Pomodoro of whom he became a pupil, and it was here he was defined as a force of nature.

Venceslao says of his artwork: “Art is a smile from God, a gift from God. It’s like life: if it’s not given freely then it hasn’t got soul, and therefore it is without substance. The artist nurtures and cultivates it”.

Venceslao’s artwork is a living stone. There is an overflowing energy of matter in it; archaic forces that have moved humanity for thousands of years live within. It’s a polysemous language of matter that communicates the conflict between sacredness and desecration. In his sketched, deconstructed bodies, in part empty, the question of human nature comes to the fore: “who are we? Juxtaposition and composition of body materiality and immateriality of the soul?”
