The exhibition, running from March 23 to May 25, 2024, is set to captivate visitors with a journey through the intricate web of relationships forged between Swedish and Polish artists in the early 1970s. The exhibition, hosted at the Södertälje Konsthall, delves into the rich tapestry of connections archived within the gallery’s collection, which remain profoundly relevant today.
At the heart of the showcase are the profound encounters between Swedish artist Torsten Renqvist and Polish sculptor Władysław Hasior in 1968, marking a turning point in Renqvist’s artistic journey. Renqvist’s decision to burn his paintings upon returning to Kummelnäs symbolizes the transformative impact of his encounter with Hasior.
The exhibition further explores the enduring legacies of other Polish artists who left indelible marks on Swedish soil, such as Marek Piasecki, Magdalena Abakanowicz, and Jerzy Bereś, among others. Their contributions, ranging from sculpture to collage, painting, installation, and video art, are showcased alongside contemporary reflections by Swedish artists like Éva Mag, Anna Kellerth, and Teresa Seger.
The vernissage promises a vibrant celebration, featuring music, theater, and presentations by the exhibition’s curators and participating artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to embark on a symbolic journey, tracing the footsteps of Hasior’s monumental work „Solspann,” erected on the canal banks from 1972 to 1976.

Additionally, „Teater Albatross” will engage audiences in a dialogue with Hasior’s legacy through performances and discussions, bridging the past with the present. The event is made possible through collaborative efforts, with support from institutions like Södertörn University, the Polish Institute, and the Cultural Historical Society in Södertälje, underscoring the significance of cross-cultural exchange in the arts.
