When: Sunday, 3rd of March, 2024
Where: Artten Gallery, Artillerigatan 10

The exhibition “Collective Wardrobe: Swap, Don’t Buy – For a More Sustainable Wardrobe and World” will open on the 3rd of March at the Artten Gallery located on Artillerigatan 10. Artist L. Christeseva aims to suggest a reprogramming of consumer behavior and an update to the fashion industry toward a sustainable future. She uses fashion to create patterns of hope and optimism, weaving her memories into the artworks. When her mother grew up in post-war Belarus, she had only one dress that she shared with her sisters, whether they wore it to school or on a date.

Since the war began in Ukraine, Christeseva has pondered the meaning of a shared dress for everyone and sisterhood. Her commitment sparked the idea for a new project, “Collective Wardrobe: Swap, Don’t Buy,” bringing people together in a discussion about a more sustainable wardrobe and world as she exchanges clothes with Ukrainian women.

Throughout the exhibition, the artist asks: How often do you swap clothes with your friends? Do your children do it? Would you like to exchange dresses with the artist and be a part of the collective wardrobe to contribute to the climate?

This project is inclusive, and by donating a piece of clothing, everyone can become a shareholder of this unique collective wardrobe. The initiative engages global activists and academics advocating for justice, peace, equality, climate, and sustainability. The project will conclude with an inspiring fashion show along Artillerigatan and at the Army Museum (TBA). L. Christeseva will draw inspiration from the solidarity and support that her previous year-long collective art project “Yellow&Blue – all of Sweden Weaves (2023-2024)” has embodied.
