Empowering Immigrant Women through Socio-Cultural and Economic Integration Projects

Hand in Hand for Women is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and the integration of newly arrived women in Sweden. The association orchestrates various projects aimed at facilitating the integration and development of immigrant women in Swedish society. Central to their mission is the belief that newly arrived women must have the means to support themselves in Sweden.

Alarming statistics show that nearly one-third of women born outside of Europe are excluded from the labor force, exacerbating the employment gap between immigrant women and men in Sweden. Hand in Hand for Women is committed to providing immigrant women with the support they need to thrive in the Swedish job market, leveraging their skills and strengths collectively.

The organization has recently initiated a new project focusing on socio-economic and cultural integration. Through collaboration with cultural education initiatives, Hand in Hand for Women seeks to contribute to the creation of democratic conditions for newly arrived women. The project, named “Creative Women,” aims to empower immigrant women economically by encouraging them to leverage their skills and experiences, becoming active participants in Sweden’s job market.

Creative Women welcomes all creative immigrant women who aspire to attain economic independence in the Swedish workforce.

Project Overview: Creative Women

This project specifically targets newly arrived women eager to enhance their Swedish language skills and integrate into society. If you possess skills in various handicrafts but face challenges in societal integration, this project is tailored for you.

Formation of a Women’s Cooperative: The project’s primary goal is to establish a women’s cooperative, where participants proudly identify themselves as “Creative Women.”
Homemade Craftwork Development: Creative Women have embarked on crafting and honing their skills in various handicrafts, subsequently selling their handmade products to generate income.
Crafting Groups by Hand in Hand for Women: Hand in Hand for Women has created diverse crafting groups, including knitting, jewelry making, sewing, home décor, eco-friendly crafts, café & food, and musical instruments via WhatsApp.
Collaboration through WhatsApp: Creative Women utilize WhatsApp for communication, collaboration, and discussions. Physical meetings are organized occasionally to delve into the intricacies of their craftwork.
Challenges and Achievements: The Creative Women challenged themselves by exhibiting and selling their handicrafts at the Craft Festival at the Stockholm Fair in Älvsjö for the first time. Despite diverse cultural backgrounds, these women share a common goal – active participation in Swedish society, believing in the transformative power of women for shaping the future.
