Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) will host a series of literary events and talks this June under its Library Talks initiative, part of the School of Life project supporting Dubai’s Quality of Life strategy. The programme brings creatives and the public into closer conversation, spotlighting their work and contributions to the local landscape as Dubai continues to grow into a global hub for the creative economy.
Library Talks will welcome Kuwaiti novelist and playwright Saud Al Sanousi on 11 June at Etihad Museum for a session tracing his creative journey across fiction and theatre. The evening will feature a reading of his play ‘The Night of the Tailor’s Execution,’ a work that probes questions of power, justice, and the relationship between the individual and authority within a setting of chaos and conflicting laws. The conversation will also turn to Al Sanousi’s approach to character development and dramatic symbolism, as well as his use of satire and theatrical imagination to address human and social issues.
The agenda also includes a three-day workshop, ‘Fundamentals of Writing Fiction in Novels’, led by Al Sanousi from 12 to 14 June at Etihad Museum. Participants will work through ideation, character development, and plot structuring, alongside narrative techniques and innovative methods for building fictional worlds. Practical exercises throughout the workshop will help attendees sharpen their craft and turn their ideas into compelling literary texts.
