Life Manifesting Selfie No. 1
Swedish-Polish visual artist and filmmaker, Malga Kubiak, one of the pioneers of selfie photography and film, has been awarded at international exhibitions and festivals.
A scrapbook of life explorations in NY, snapshots of life without prior editing, a snapshot captures the moment without judgment.
Nakedness in art, self-nudity, is it always a nude?
Windows with Views
You are in a gallery, looking at a photo album, thinking they are snapshots of something past. You have no idea that these are windows with views to life in New York, Warsaw, Gothenburg, or Stockholm.
You may not even know how to figure out what you see through the windows in the teleport. Perhaps you have to squint to see how Malga, using self-nudity as a medium, creates a selfie video that captures snapshots of life without any prior editing.
And she is not allowed to do that; she is a woman, and she is not allowed to do anything without self-editing.
Every creative moment, show, exhibition, or performance is a challenge, a test of courage: will she endure the consequences of what she has exposed herself to this time?
You glance at the photos with an untrained eye and think – Malga is naked. Look closely; Malga reveals an incredibly intimate moment of decision-making and testing her courage. Every single time anew.
Squint your eyes – the subject of this exhibitionism is not the body, but the courage to demand life in its entirety, which is presented simultaneously, before your eyes, in a superposition by, to quote a certain Very Important Person,
Malga “Badass” Kubiak.
