Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Katy Garner and Peace Mitchell, the dynamic duo behind Connect2mums and The AusMumpreneur Network. Thank you both for joining us. Let’s dive right in.
Halina Rosa: Running a business while raising a family can be challenging. How do you manage to balance the demands of motherhood with entrepreneurship?
Katy Garner: It’s all about finding that balance and being flexible. We’ve learned to set our own schedules and utilize resources like au pairs and virtual assistants to help lighten the load. Taking breaks and prioritizing self-care is crucial for both our personal and professional well-being.
Peace Mitchell: Exactly. We’ve also built a support system where we can rely on each other when needed. As sisters, we’re intuitive about each other’s needs and make sure to give each other the space and time required to navigate both business and family life.
Halina Rosa: What inspired you to start AusMumpreneur, and how does it empower women in business?
Peace Mitchell: We started AusMumpreneur in response to the growing number of women starting businesses after having children. We wanted to provide education, support, and recognition for mumpreneurs across Australia. Through our programs, like The Women’s Business School, and initiatives like the AusMumpreneur Awards, we aim to empower women to succeed in business while also being present for their families.
Halina Rosa: Can you share some advice for mothers starting their own businesses?
Katy Garner: Always be learning and open to new opportunities. Whether it’s through online courses, reading, or networking, continuous education is key to growing your business and gaining confidence in your abilities.
Peace Mitchell: And don’t be afraid to stand out! Be unique, utilize social media to connect with your audience, and don’t hesitate to partner with like-minded businesses. Giving back to your community and staying true to your values will also set you apart.
Halina Rosa: The AusMumpreneur Awards are a significant part of your platform. How can mumpreneurs nominate themselves or others for these awards?
Peace Mitchell: Nominations can be submitted through our website, ausmumpreneur.com. We welcome nominations from mumpreneurs at any stage of their business journey. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the incredible achievements of women in business and challenge stereotypes about mumpreneurship.
Halina Rosa: Lastly, what are your goals for the future of AusMumpreneur, both personally and professionally?
Katy Garner: Our vision for AusMumpreneur extends beyond Australia. We’re passionate about empowering women globally and making a positive impact on communities worldwide.
Peace Mitchell: Personally, I’m excited about attending a conference in October where Elizabeth Gilbert will be speaking. Professionally, we have exciting projects lined up, including launching new courses, hosting retreats, and expanding our reach to support women in disadvantaged areas.
Halina Rosa: Thank you both for sharing your insights and passion for empowering mumpreneurs. Your dedication to supporting women in business is truly inspiring.
