The halls of Tensta Träff came alive earlier this month as Bangiya Sanatan Samaj, Stockholm, celebrated 37 glorious years of Durga Puja — the oldest and most inclusive Durga Puja in the Nordic region.
Over the three festive days, the venue resonated with the rhythmic dhak, fragrant incense, and the warmth of hundreds of devotees and well-wishers gathered to honor Goddess Durga. The event beautifully blended tradition, diversity, and community spirit, creating a true “home away from home” for everyone.
This year’s Puja was remarkable for its inclusive atmosphere, welcoming participants from across cultures and nationalities. Attendees described it as a celebration where devotion meets unity, and every heart felt connected. Sujata Banerjee (@thestockholmblogger), a volunteer at the event, shared, “It felt just like our Puja back home, but with an even bigger family.”
The festivities included traditional rituals, cultural performances, and music and dance evenings, with children and youth showcasing vibrant performances that reflected the continuity of culture across generations.
Organized entirely by volunteers, Bangiya Sanatan Samaj continues to be a cornerstone of cultural life in Stockholm, nurturing both Bengali traditions and Nordic values of inclusion, warmth, and togetherness.
As the final Sindoor Khela concluded, one message resonated across the crowd — “It’s not just a festival, it’s our home Puja — one that welcomes every heart.”

Hindi Divas 2025 was celebrated at the Puja venue, with the Embassy of India in Sweden joining the event. The celebration included prize distribution to recognize contributions to promoting Hindi. Indian Ambassador to Sweden, Anurag Bhushan, also visited, interacting with volunteers and attendees and appreciating the community’s efforts in preserving Indian culture and strengthening India-Sweden relations, making the occasion truly memorable.
