MARICRUZ ARRIBAS BERENDSOHN

2 min read

MARICRUZ ARRIBAS BERENDSOHN was born in the city of Piura, Peru, in 1954, and studied Painting in the art faculty of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, graduating in 1987. Even though being a professional painter, during her career we can see evidence of a quest beyond painting: attracted to matter, texture, and everyday objects, she has set her path in the fields of sculpture, the assembly of objects and art installations, using recycled objects and pieces found by her across time. She currently lives in Lima, Peru.

She has presented several individual art exhibitions abroad, including “Works”, at the Inter-American Development Bank (1999) and an exhibit in the OEA Art Museum of the Americas (2000), both in Washington DC, USA, and in Pintzel Gallery (2007) in Pamplona, Spain.

Within the variety of art exhibitions that she has presented in Peru, these ones stand out: “Armonías Reintegradas” in Galería Pancho Fierro (2018), “Geometrías, geografías y ensamblajes” in Galería Lucía de la Puente (2004), “Una Cruz Andina” in Galería de Artes Visuales del Centro Cultural Ccori Wasi de la Universidad Ricardo Palma (2008), “La huella en el objeto. Estética del reciclaje” in Galería L’Imaginaire de la Alianza Francesa (2010), and “Séptima Entrega”, “Homenaje a lo Cotidiano” and “Pinturas y Ensamblajes” all set in La Galería (2001, 2000, 1997).

The artist has also participated in multiple collective art exhibits in different countries, including Chile, Venezuela, France, Spain, and Peru. Her artworks belong to important private and public collections in Peru and abroad, including those belonging to Centro Empresarial de San Isidro, el Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), el Museo de Arte Moderno de Arequipa, the International Labour Organization (ILO), el Banco Central de Reserva, Banco Scotiabank, Banco de Crédito and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; as well as the World Bank, OEA and the International Finance Corporation, in Washington DC., USA.

Thank you very much dear Maricruz for sharing your beautiful art in the Designer magazine Stockholm. Best regards.

Many thanks to Sophia Calvo for being a correspondent for the magazine from Peru.
